Connecting to the Library's Wireless Network using your own laptop or other device

The SFL offers wireless connections to the Library's Internet service. Direct plug-in ports are not available at this time. If you are bringing in your own laptop and wish to use our Wireless Internet connection you will need:

» A computer or other device equipped with an 802.11b/g-compatible wireless card.
» Using your computer's network utilities, look for the wireless network named "Southold WiFi #."
» The "Southold WiFi" wireless network does not require a password to connect.
» If it does not connect, check your laptop for a button or switch which may be off that controls the wireless connection.
» You will not be able to print. In order to print, you will have to either email the document to yourself or save it to a USB drive and open it using one of the library computers and print from there.

Connecting to the Library's Wireless Network using the Library's laptop

The SFL offers a number of laptops for use on the Library's Internet service. Using one of our laptops has the same advantages as using one of our PCs which includes the ability to print to either the black and white or color laser printers.

» The laptops should be plugged in to an outlet and the wires should not cross a path where other patrons may walk
» Our laptops should automatically find and connect to a wireless network named "WiFi Print #."
» The "Southold WiFi" wireless network requires a password to connect and is already in the laptop - just click OK.
» With our laptops, you can print to our 2 networked laser printers: LaserBW (monochrome) or LaserColor. The printers are on the first floor behind the circulation desk.
